“Call to Stand Firm ~ Part-2”

Commentary says, “In view of the fact that you are thus chosen from eternity, and that you are to be raised up to such honor and glory. Stand fast.Amidst A – L – L the temptations which surround you.” (FROM: Barnes’ New Testament Notes) I think that is quite clear and needs not further explanation. Ephesians 6:10 is a cross-reference for this commentary passage. It reads, “Finally, be strengthened in the Lord and in the strength of his power.” It is His strength we use to stand firm and for holding on to our faith in Him.

2 Thessalonians, verses nine and ten read, “[9] The arrival of the lawless one will be by Satan’s working with all kinds of miracles and signs and false wonders, [10] and with every kind of evil deception directed against those who are perishing, because they found no place in their hearts for the truth so as to be saved.”. Can you understand; can you see; how salvation is at the very core of this issue with mankind everywhere on earth?!

“The word rendered after, it need not be said to one who looks at the Greek, does not refer to time, but is a preposition, meaning according to, in conformity with; meaning that the manner of his appealing would be accompanied by such works as would show that the agency of Satan was employed, and such as he only could produce.” (FROM: Barnes’ New Testament Notes)

The Day of the Lord ~ Part-1

One of the important commentary issues of note is found in this passage, “…before this time there was to be a general apostasy, and Antichrist must appear; whom from his character, he calls the man of sin, and from his end, the son of perdition; and describes him as an opposer of God, an exalter of himself above all that is called God, as sitting in the temple of God and declaring himself to be God”. (From: The New John Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible)

A very strong commentary passage for sure! Clearly spoken of the Antichrist in the Mid-Tribulation when he sits in the Temple, defiling it.

Have we seen… Or… Are we now seeing the apostasy spoken of in Matthew 24:12? If you have forgotten or have not yet read this passage, for the complete thought, read verses 11 and 12 for the complete thought.

“The soul is destroyed as to the great purposes of its being with enjoyment, dignity, honor, holiness, happiness. It will not be annihilated, but will live and linger on in destruction. It seems difficult to conceive how any one can profess to hold that this passage is a part of the word of God, and yet deny the doctrine of future eternal punishment. It would not be possible to state that doctrine in clearer language than this. It never is stated in clearer language in any creed or confession of faith; and if it be not true that the wicked will be punished for ever, it must be admitted that it would not have been possible to reveal the doctrine in human language.” (FROM: Barnes’ New Testament Notes Commentary)

1 Thessalonians 5:23 reads, “Now may the God of peace himself make you completely holy and may your spirit and soul and body be kept entirely blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”. That blessing upon the Thessalonians made by Paul is, at the very least, an impressive one! What could Paul be saying and / or bestowing upon the Thessalonians? How could they, or anyone!, be entirely blameless, or found that way by Christ, at His coming?!

A lot of plain, easy to understand, do and don’t issues in 1 Thessalonians 5:15-22 for sure! Could it explain why much of the American church is the way it is today?! Possibly, other churches around the world as well? This is why this bears examination.

Verse fifteen reads, “See that no one pays back evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good for one another and for … and, … for, … A – L – L.”. Where is the exceptions found in the phrase, “and, … for, … A – L – L”?! Here we are in the first scripture portion that really says something we are most likely familiar with, regarding Christ’s return for his saints before the tribulation. Most likely, the primary reason for people delving into the two books of Thessalonians.
