We are being emphatically told to stay alert! Not a suggestion or casual statement but, an emphatic one. In reading Matthew 25:1-13, we read again, “…stay alert, because you do not know the day or the hour.” In Barnes’ New Testament Notes we also read, “The coming of Christ to receive his people to himself is often represented under the similitude of a marriage – the church being represented as his spouse or bride.” Because this is a parable, it is used as an example to say something else.
