Use Not Liberty For An Occasion To The Flesh

We will examine how we are not to use liberty for an occasion to the flesh. Scripture starts right away with a dire warning in the first verse on this subject! The second verse on this subject tells us how the WHOLE law can be summed in this one statement, “You must love your neighbor as yourself.”. Who is my neighbor?

Galatians 5:15 says this, “…beware that you are not consumed by one another.”. This can happen so fast it is virtually undetectable until you are way to involved so it stands out as something wrong. This is why the full verse reads, “However, if you continually bite and devour one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another.”.

“You Will Surely Die!”

We read that God said, if Adam ate the forbidden fruit he would surely die. When reading that statement we read it with a sense of immediacy. In other words, you eat, you die! Yet, Adam lived 930 years! There is a perceived contradiction here. This means, we need to unwrap the underlying paradox. God is true to his word so there is no contradiction here! Only a seeming conundrum, a paradox of evidence that we do not see at first read. We will also see that, “The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil” was put there for a REAL!, purpose. Not to just provide a way for Adam and Eve to simply choose whether or not to follow God or to fall into the temptation eventually presented to them.

Genesis 22:15-18 reads, “[15] The LORD’s angel called to Abraham a second time from heaven [16] and said, “I solemnly swear by my own name,” decrees the LORD, “that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, [17] I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be as countless as the stars in the sky or the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the strongholds of their enemies. [18] Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.” Isaac and Jacob both received this promise as well. It suggests the notion of Generational Blessing!
