I can tell you, in America, I meet many people with some form of Pharaoh’s attitude, heart and thinking. That is just how it is in this part of America I live in. There is more than enough money in people’s pockets and bank accounts that they can afford to be resistive to God. They do not see God’s blessing on their lives even though it is there. They attribute their affluence to their own hard work alone.

We need to take special notice of the very first sentence in this Matthew Henry's Commentary passage. It read, “All the plagues inflicted on the Egyptians, had reference to their N – A – T – I – O – N – A – L CRIMES, or were rendered particularly severe by their CUSTOMS.”. We can therefore, understand, that two issues were being addressed by God in the same occurrence of the plagues.
